We are very excited to be working along side Lynn Hempen in bringing a skatepark to the Bangor waterfront. We have begun by designing branding, marketing materials, merchandise and a new website for the park. We wanted to be involved with the development of this skatepark for a few reasons, first off, Andrea the owner of Studio Linear has a 7 year old son who has taken up skateboarding. There is an outdoor park located on Union St, in Bangor that is completely unacceptable for anyone to be using, it is not safe and not monitored. The only skatepark in the area is an indoor park located at the Old Town YMCA. Lynn Hempen's son is an avid skateboarder. He started at the age of 7 and is now 15.
Years ago, there was a skatepark located by the Bangor Auditorium. This park was removed when they demolished the old auditorium and made way for the Cross Insurance Center. It was relocated to the Union St lot. We are working to have the new park be located on the Bangor waterfront, an area that could benefit from a park such as this. There is talk of fitness trails being installed as well in that area and it is a hub for concerts and events such as the American Folk Festival. Having a park with seating would allow spectators a place to watch and relax. The waterfront has great lighting and is constantly busy with people walking and enjoying the view. This would be an ideal location for a skatepark. There is already funding in place. We are making plans for the next steps in the future of this park. Currently, we are developing a website which will be launching in the next few weeks. If you are interested in showing support, follow us on Instragram and like us on Facebook! The new website will have merchadise for sale and proceeds will be going to help build and maintain this park.
