Case Study - Rootofio

Our projects all start on paper, it helps us layout designs and play around with concepts before they become digital.

We were hired by Courtney Langley of Boston’s newest “milk” companies, Rootofio, to develop their branding and package design. The unique thing about Rootofio is that it is milk derived by Tiger Nuts that are actually a root vegetable with no nuts whatsoever.

We started the process by researching where tiger nuts originated from which is western Africa. We studied the colors, textures and patterns of that geographic location and used that as inspiration in our designs.

We created custom drawings and paintings for the packaging with patterns reminiscent of that region. For the branding, we wanted to create something bold, something that would really catch your eye while walking past this product on the shelves. We played around with the branding placement on the packaging and loved how stacking it vertically gave it a hip, unique vibe.

We designed a submarl/stamp as well that we intended to be placed as a sticker on the top of the bottle cap. The leaf in the center of the badge was designed to combine a droplet of milk with the leaf veins making it easy for a consumer to see that this product is plant based.

Launching in the Boston area to start, Rootofio will hit the market spring of 2019 with plans of expanding and launching a children’s line of milks that are 100% allergen free! Flavors such as chocolate and vanilla will be up next and made with plant based, organic ingredients. We are very excited to be part of the beginning stages with this new start-up and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Rootofio!
