Unrest Coffee is a Maine based coffee company owned by Micah Beaulieu. Unrest began one cold winter night when Micah roasted his first batch of coffee in his family’s Vermont Castings wood stove over 4 winters ago. He then set out to build his own coffee roaster and roasts only organic and fairtrade beans that he purchases from a distributor right in the state of Maine.

Objective + Solution
Unrest had a great back story to their business that we wanted to bring into the branding. They began the early years by roasting coffee by wood sourced from across the state of Maine. We wanted to create a brand that was as bold as the Maine terrain and as rugged as the cold Maine winters. We also decided that including a hand drawn botanical coffee bean plant on the packaging would lend a nice touch in softening up the bold, san serif typeface. We pulled colors from vintage advertisements we found from a company that also has its origins in Maine, LL Bean. We created a submark that pulls in a look of a path by connecting the U and N and adding in trail imagery from an old map we found of Blue Hill, Maine.
