Glazed is a small cannabis company owned by the young entrepreneur, Jodie Stone. They came to us with the goal to leverage our experience in building brands in the cannabis industry to create a long lasting cannabis brand.
The brand focuses on young adults who work hard but miss that carefree time they used to have. They are also looking into cannabis products to help them stay focused and feel relaxed at the same time.
We wanted the brand should feel psychedelic, energetic and youthful. The packaging needed to be simple yet aligned with the overall branding and most importantly, have fun with the creative.
They also needed a website to showcase both the branding and their product lines. The website not only needed to focus on the user experience and the commerce sales, but it also has to portray the 90s vibes that the client requested.
We were booked to create their branding, product packaging, art direction, and website. This project was done in 8 weeks.
During the planning phase, we brainstormed how we could approach our goal so that the final result would meet Glazed expectations. Branding and packaging could take up to 8 weeks, and we still have the website to complete. We needed to make sure everything would be done within the 8 weeks timeframe. That was our first challenge.
We started with a mood board and some rough sketches of Glazed’s ideal clients. We came up with several amazing ideas, but only one that would be chosen. We chose a modern and playful font that also replicated the smoke from a cannabis joint. A youthful color palette that represents the young adults as well as the happy moment after they have consumed cannabis.
The packaging includes the rolling paper, the matchbox with pre-roll joints combo, flower packaging and other applications such as the branded hoodie, pair of socks, and a skateboard.
We started off by doing our research and mapping out our user flow and site map. This step is extremely important for the user experience. We implemented structured navigation throughout the website, which allows the users to move seamlessly through the end goals of their journey.
After the UX design phase, we went over to build the site wireframe on Figma. Since we already did our research on the user journey, we translated them into visual feeling, the user interface. We adhered to the brand guidelines that we came up with during the branding phase, applying the beautiful color palette of yellow, purple, and pink together.
We made the call-to-action button a big pink pill shape so users could easily find where they should go next. The pill shape button makes the design more modern, but the color palette gives it a 90s vibe. The colored borders on the images were the give-away, who didn’t use colored borders back in the day.
Since it will be an eCommerce website, we decided to build it with Shopify. Shopify is the best platform to build eCommerce websites to date. Although the shopping experience with Shopify is great, we found that the design and development experience is very limited. This was the turning point that we decided to use Webflow as our website building tool. Using Webflow, we could cut our development time by half as everything is managed online, and the visual builder just makes the development process more manageable.
We added a ton of micro interactions to the website to breathe life into the design. From the hover interaction, color switching animation, to the marquee animations. Everything works as a cohesive block that will keep the users on the page long enough for the conversion.
The final result is a stunning website with a new and improved look and user experience, which also feels inclusive for everyone and reflects Glazed as a unique cannabis brand!
